A Busy Two-Month Period

Those sounds you hear coming from neighborhood homes are peels of joy from parents whose students just went back to school. But for those parents who work, September ushers in a two-month period, up until about Thanksgiving, of pretty intense work.
If that's the case with your profession, remember that your local Postal Connections can help with copying and printing, preparing presentations, shredding documents and even office supplies. Take advantage of the great little neighborhood store that is much more than just a pack and ship store. And if you do need to ship something we have shipping alternative and can ship anywhere in the world!

Three Stories from 9-11

Pic from Wikipedia.org
- Marines, Jason Thomas and Dave Karnes, separately rushed to the collapsed towers. They did not know each other but were driven by a need to help. They came to the carnage with just flashlights and a military entrenching tool.
They climbed over the rubble of metal, concrete and dust, calling out, "United States Marines! If you can hear us, yell or tap!" They heard two New York Port Authority police officers who asked them not to leave. It took rescue workers about three hours to dig out one and eight more hours to reach the other, both alive.
Their story was told in Oliver Stone's 2006 film "World Trade Center".
- Two flight attendants, Betty Ong and Amy Sweeney, on American Airlines Flight 11, calmly relayed information that helped the FBI determine the perpetrators were al Qaeda. These incredible professionals provided American Airlines with names, addresses and other information on three of the five hijackers during the 20 minutes it took the plane to crash.
- Rick Rescorla, head of corporate security for Morgan Stanley, knew that when American Flight 11 hit the tower next to him, that the building would collapse. Despite orders from Port Authority to stay put, Rescorla began getting people out of his building. He helped get more than 2,700 employees and visitors out when the second plane hit their building.
In a call to his wife, Rescorla said: "I have to get these people out safely. If something should happen to me, I want you to know I've never been happier. You made my life." Last seen on the 10th floor of the South Tower, while heading upward to look for stragglers, his body was never found.
