St. Patrick's Day Facts



  • Blue began as the color most associated with St. Patrick. Long ago, green was thought to be unlucky. In fact, the Irish Presidential Standard is still blue.

  • Dripsey in County Cork used to put on the world's shortest parade at just 77 feet! This happened to be the distance between two pubs — The Weigh Inn and The Lee Valley.

    Now, Hot Springs, AR claims the shortest parade route. It's a 98 foot route on Bridge Street. Revelers have included the Irish Elvises and the San Diego Chicken.

  • Recent sales totals indicate that imbibers worldwide drink 5.5 million pints of Guinness each day. However, on St. Patrick's Day that figure is doubled!

  • More than 80 million people all around the globe claim an Irish ancestral connection including about 12 percent of Americans.

  • St. Patrick came from Wales, not Ireland.



Daylight Savings


Daylight Savings Time 2017 begins Sunday, March 12. This custom started with ancient civilizations adapting their schedules to the sun's schedule. In modern times, the practice has been in existence for about 100 years evolving to where today, daylight savings 2017 starts on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November.
