Mardi Gras
 |
Mardi Gras (which means Fat Tuesday) is tied to Easter so it is never on the same day. It's set on the day before Ash Wednesday which is 46 days prior to Easter. This year, Mardi Gras is February 17th. However, the Carnival season, as it is called in New Orleans, begins on Jan. 6, King's Day (Feast of the |
Epiphany) The revelry of Mardi Gras, is kind of a last hurrah before Lent which begins on Ash Wednesday. Because the celebration in New Orleans is free, the parades, celebrations and general debauchery that mark the season make Mardi Gras the "Greatest Free Show on Earth.”
